These Christmas breakfast ideas are made for a slow, cozy Christmas morning: something sweet for the kids, something savory for the adults and a few things you can make ahead so you are not stuck in the kitchen while everyone opens presents. I also included the Armenian breakfast I love most, because Christmas morning is the perfect time to set out a spread.
What Christmas Morning Looks Like at Our House
Christmas morning at our house looks like a happy mess. There is stuff everywhere, and there are always smiles and so much excitement, with the kids running down to the tree even as teenagers. Because honestly, how can you not be excited about Christmas morning? It is usually me saying, "Hold on, I need my coffee!" before they start tearing into their gifts. It is a kind of happiness that is so hard to explain.
Then, once the excitement settles and every gift has been unwrapped, they look at me and say they are starving. So next, you have to feed them. That is exactly where these Christmas breakfast ideas come in.

An Armenian Christmas Breakfast: Basterma and Eggs
One of my favorite Armenian breakfasts is basterma and eggs. Basterma is a cured, air-dried beef coated in a bold spice paste called chaman, made with fenugreek, garlic and paprika. Warm a few slices in a skillet, crack eggs right on top and cook until the whites are set. It is salty, spicy and so good with warm bread. Recipe coming soon!
To make it a spread, set out basterma and eggs with Armenian string cheese, olives, sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, fresh herbs, lavash and a sliced loaf of cheoreg. Everyone can build their own plate.
Make-Ahead Christmas Breakfast Ideas

Tips for an Easy Christmas Morning
- Prep on Christmas Eve. Chop the potatoes, mix the waffle dry ingredients and set the table the night before.
- Pick one sweet and one savory. Cinnamon rolls plus an egg scramble covers everyone.
- Use the oven and the stove at the same time. Bake rolls or boreg while you cook eggs on the stovetop.
- Set out a spread. A board of cheese, fruit, bread and basterma lets everyone graze while presents get opened.
